Jackarais THE GREAT 19th May 2017, 1:55 AM edit delete

T'was my birthday yesterday, and I'm telling everyone because I'm always very excited to live another year of life. Love you all. I hope you're having a good year too.

Already made it to double digits for this chapter! I wonder how long it'll be in the end.

This page & the previous one kicked my ass.

In short, I'm very glad that we're indoors now and I don't need to draw another cityscape for a while.

I bought a beautiful commission of Machk & Poet from BioAtomic, and also received a glorious gift drawing of Poet from T_Deines. Check this beautiful shit out!

You are a hard working artist. (rendering this page would be a lot of hard work for me at least)
I especially like the room interior and bird's eye view in the last panel. So many artists neglect backgrounds when they could be used to establish things like mood and setting etc.
Great job again.

Well, I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss the bare desert backgrounds from the previous scene. Pages like this ARE time consuming, but I think establishing shots are very important to set the stage. Tone & mood, like you said. Once that's done the artist can feel free to zoom in and draw busts/face shots for the rest of the scene (while not ideal, it's still better than no establishing shot at all!).

Another thing I would like to mention is the positive relationships you portray between the various races and sexes in your comic. Tragically we live in a time of extreme division here in America with almost no hope in sight for unification. I am touched by the close relationship between Machk & Poet and how Machk (a black man) has selflessly risked his life to protect Poet (a white man) with no mention at any point about skin color or past indiscretions.
This may be an apocalyptic world, but at least a part of it evolved into something more beautiful.

Machk's selfless behaviour is a reflection of many things he's gone through in life. Suffered many hardships, yes, but experienced much love, as well--and love is what he wants to pay forward. He has a strong sense of community and I think it shows in his actions. I'm glad this stuff is coming across well to you! So thank you for telling me. :)
As for the other stuff, it's true your country is going through a very troubling time. America's struggles are echoed in Canada, too. Though not so severely. I still remain hopeful that people will continue to stand up for themselves, against hate and division, even though it'll likely get worse before it gets better. What matters is sticking together. Stay strong.

Happy birthday, Jackarais! And happy city, too! I was sure I'd seen the guy in the orange shades on the previous page somewhere else, and was waiting to see if I could remember where... without success. I did note the second appearance of Heavy Metal Granny and her shopping trolley - is she going to become a regular character? *imagines Heavy Metal Granny dragging Morris off by his ear and/or putting him over her knee* >:=)>

Oh, that would be one of my characters from a zine I made back in 2014.

She vaguely reminds me of a lot of other characters when I look at her. But yeah! I might revisit that story one day but I don't have any plans for it right now.

As for the Heavy Metal Granny, she is sadly just a background character. I fully support her kicking the shit out of Morris though.

And thank you so much for the birthday wishes! You rock.
